Did you know that more than 150 fundraising professionals received scholarships to attend international conferences and other fantastic training opportunities this past year – all thanks to BE the CAUSE, a joint campaign of the AFP Foundation for Philanthropy and AFP chapters across the U.S.?
One of those professionals was AFP-West Michigan member Megan Lorenz, Development Associate, West Michigan Center for Arts and Technology (WMCAT) whose 2017 Chamberlain Scholarship made it possible for her to attend AFP’s International Conference for the first time in her career.
“The 2018 AFP International Conference was the most substantial professional development experience I’ve had so far. Not only did I connect with other fundraising professionals from organizations across the country, I learned directly from experts and thought leaders with a passion for philanthropy and seeing nonprofits flourish.”
Megan broadened her network by making new and valuable connections at the 2018 conference in New Orleans, and walked away feeling inspired with fresh ideas about the importance of setting the stage for meaningful giving.
“I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity and everyone who made it possible; I don’t think there is any other experience that would’ve provided me with the same depth and breadth of professional growth that the AFP International Conference did.”
Scholarships are just one of the many ways that AFP Foundation supports the professional development of fundraisers like Megan. Learn more about BE the CAUSE on AFP Foundation’s website.

The Showcase strives to portray the uniqueness, value, and diversity of people through art, photos, and poetry. We know there is a lot of talent among our members, so we’re calling all AFP member artists, poets, and photographers to participate. Members do not have to attend the conference to participate.

There are plenty of experts that tell us how to seek donor advised fund (DAF) gifts, but I haven’t seen much in the way to help us steward the gifts. Here you go, folks.
