Summary
This position is onsite in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

We are seeking a passionate, committed Program Director to use their experience to help launch the new Family Promise of Southwest Michigan affiliate. As the Program Director, you will work with families, staff, and community partners to end homelessness, one family at a time. This role will oversee all aspects of service delivery and ensure families experiencing homelessness have trauma-informed programming to move home as quickly as possible, with the goal of the episode of homelessness being rare, brief, and not marked by trauma.
About you: You have experience hiring and supervising large teams, implementing equitable services, and managing budgets. You’re an excellent communicator and have outstanding organizational, analytical, prioritization, and problem-solving skills. You enjoy coaching and mentoring team members and are passionate about creating a dynamic, healthy culture where everyone thrives.

Job Duties
The Program Director’s contributions to the organization’s success:
Program & Service Delivery
• Design, implement, and monitor program services for the emergency shelter.
• Oversee daily operations.
• Ensure program staffing models, case loads, service flows, and policies reflect trauma-informed, housing-first best practices.
• Oversee the program budget in partnership with finance, ensure cost‐effective operations, monitor expenditures and forecast needs.
• Monitor client outcomes: shelter stay length, exit to housing, reduction in barriers, service utilization, etc. Use data to drive continuous improvement.
Staffing, Supervision & Culture
• Recruit, hire, orient, train, supervise, and evaluate program staff
• Develop and maintain a positive team culture.
• Implement ongoing professional development.
• Set schedules and coordinate coverage (including evenings and weekends).
Partnerships & Community Engagement
• Serve as the point‐person for community partners, service providers, housing agencies, etc.
• Represent the organization in community coalitions, the local CoC and public forums.
• Collaborate with external agencies to ensure seamless referrals, service coordination, and connection to employment, healthcare, behavioral health, and housing resources.
Data & Compliance
• Ensure timely, accurate data entry into HMIS and other database systems.
• Develop reports, dashboards, and analytics to show program performance, identify trends, make recommendations, and present to leadership or the board.
• Ensure policies and procedures for client confidentiality, intake/exit, incident reports, crisis intervention, and facility security are upheld.
Requirements
The Ideal candidate will be/have:
• BSW or equivalent work experience; MSW preferred.
• Experience supervising teams with a minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience required.
• A minimum of 2 years in a direct services role is required, meaning you carried a case load.
• Outstanding organizational, analytical, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to build strong community partnerships and be collaborative
• Highly flexible and able to pivot in a fast-paced, changing environment.
• The ability to think quickly and creatively. This is a new position at a start-up organization. It is essential to manage multiple priorities while keeping the mission at the forefront

• An understanding of working in a crisis space and the importance of a trauma-informed lens.
