About the Position
Summary
The Clark Foundation is seeking a passionate and experienced Director of Philanthropy and Legacy Giving to lead our efforts in building lasting relationships and inspiring meaningful gifts that enrich the lives of older adults at Clark Retirement Community. This role blends strategic leadership, relationship management, event participation, and resident engagement.
The Director will design and implement giving strategies, steward donors at every stage of their philanthropic journey, and be a visible presence at Clark — collaborating with residents, families, and community members to strengthen our culture of generosity.
* Planning and leading the major and planned giving program.
* Researching major/planned gift donor prospects
* Growing relationships with major gift donors
* Developing a donor solicitation strategy for major/planned giving prospects.
* Designing and operating a donor stewardship program
Job Duties
Donor Cultivation & Stewardship
Manage a portfolio of major and planned giving donors and prospects.
Conduct in-person visits with Heritage Society members, prospective legacy donors, and other major supporters.
Create personalized proposals, gift agreements, renewal letters, newsletters, and other donor communications.
Develop new donor recognition opportunities and giving societies.
Partner with the Barnabas Foundation on planned giving initiatives.
Document donor contacts and activity in Donor Perfect, following established protocols.
Provide regular reports on donor activity and fundraising progress.
Events and Resident Engagement
Plan, coordinate, and participate in Clark Foundation donor events, recognition gatherings, and legacy society programs.
Collaborate with residents, families, volunteers, and committees (such as the Leading Ladies) to design meaningful events that deepen donor engagement.
Represent the Foundation at resident programs and community events, serving in speaking, hosting, and relationship-building roles.
Ensure donor-centered hospitality and thoughtful follow-up at all events.
Strategic Planning and Development Leadership
Collaborate with the Executive Director and trustees to develop and implement a comprehensive Development Plan.
Incorporate strategies such as creative fundraising events, employee giving, recurring gift programs, and grant opportunities.
Contribute to overall Foundation strategy as an active member of the leadership team.
Participate in the Clark Foundation Donor Relations Committee.
Community Outreach and Relationship Building
Build effective relationships with trustees, attorneys, estate planners, financial advisors, and other professional partners.
Attend civic and professional organizations (e.g., Rotary, Economic Club) to represent Clark in the broader community.
Stay current on estate planning techniques and best practices in philanthropy.
Requirements
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree required.
Experience in the nonprofit sector preferred.
Five or more years of experience in prospect management, donor cultivation, and major gift fundraising.
Experience with capital campaigns.
Proven record of securing major and planned gifts.
Experience working with high-net-worth individuals, families, and professional advisors.
Preferred Skills, Qualities, and Abilities:
Ability to articulate the Clark story with passion and sincerity.
Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and interpersonal).
Strong project and event management ability.
Exceptional attention to detail, follow-through, problem-solving skills and confidentiality.
Collaborative and customer-service oriented mindset.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Experience with donor databases and CRM software (Donor Perfect preferred).
