About the Position
Summary
Fremont Area Community Foundation is looking for a collaborative leader and relationship-builder to join our staff as Director of Philanthropic Services. This position involves leading our advancement, donor cultivation and stewardship, and asset development work.

Job Duties
General responsibilities of this position
• Lead in the creation, implementation, and maintenance of the Community Foundation’s asset development plan and advancement function.
• Cultivate prospective donors and engage in donor retention strategies to champion the expansion of philanthropy in our region.
• Work with donors, attorneys, and financial advisors to review plans for charitable giving and relay guidance concerning estate planning, establishment of charitable trusts, and tax implications of charitable giving.
• Work cooperatively with teams across the organization to promote charitable giving, connect donors with community needs, increase visibility of the Community Foundation, and ensure consistent messaging.

Requirements
Knowledge, skills, and abilities required
• Completion of a bachelor’s degree in a related field and approximately five to seven years of related experience
• Ability to analyze data, evaluate and plan development operations, and identify emerging needs, trends, and responses
• Advanced interpersonal and communication skills
• Demonstrated success with donors, campaigns, and asset development

We were founded in 1951 by a group of dedicated community leaders and have grown to be one of the largest community foundations in the U.S. on a per capita basis. In 2025, we awarded $9.9 million in grants and more than $859,000 in scholarships. We held $342.5 million in assets as of December 31, 2025.
Our mission is to enhance quality of life for all people in Newaygo County and surrounding communities. We do this by connecting the generosity of passionate donors with community needs, and are guided by the principles of building goodwill, earning trust, and strengthening relationships. The Community Foundation also supports affiliate foundations in Lake, Mecosta, and Osceola counties.
We value work/life balance and seek to cultivate a flexible, positive culture. Our office is open 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Fridays. Staff can choose to work from home on Wednesdays and Fridays and can take advantage of wellness time off and volunteer time programs. We have a comfortable, well-maintained office just outside the City of Fremont, and our property includes a multi-acre prairie area featuring native plants and a walking path.
