About the Position

Summary

The Development Manager is responsible for supporting Opera Grand Rapids’ fundraising initiatives with a focus on grants, corporate sponsorships, donor relations, and data management. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, this individual will play a critical role in ensuring effective communication with donors, sponsors, and community partners while keeping OGR’s development efforts organized and on track.
The ideal candidate is exceptionally organized, thrives on checking tasks off their list, and is a strong communicator with excellent writing skills.

Working Conditions

Hybrid schedule flexibility (with some evenings/weekends required for performances and donor events).

Job Duties

Key Responsibilities

Grant Writing and Reporting
o Research, draft, and submit grant proposals and reports to foundations, corporations, and government entities.
o Track deadlines and maintain grant calendar.

Corporate Sponsorships
o Coordinate communications on behalf of the Executive Director
o Manage sponsor benefit fulfillment and communications.

Donor Relations and Cultivation
o Schedule and coordinate donor meetings for the Executive Director and board members.
o Draft and manage donor correspondence, acknowledgments, and cultivation communications.
o Assist with donor engagement events as needed.

Data and Records Management
o Maintain accurate and up-to-date donor records in fundraising software.
o Generate reports, track gifts, and support campaign tracking and analysis.

Departmental Support
o Assist the Executive Director with development planning and strategy.
o Assist the staff and committee with the annual fundraising gala and other fundraising events.
o Provide logistical and administrative support for fundraising campaigns and initiatives.

Requirements

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in nonprofit management, communications, arts administration, or related field.
• At least 2–3 years of experience in fundraising, development, or nonprofit administration preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail.
• Experience with donor databases/fundraising software (knowledge of Panorama, Raiser’s Edge, or similar systems a plus).
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Enthusiasm for the performing arts and commitment to Opera Grand Rapids’ mission.

Salary Range

$30,000
