About the Position

Position Summary

West Michigan Environmental Action Council (WMEAC) is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization working to protect and enhance West Michigan’s environment by translating the concerns of people into positive action. WMEAC has been delivering environmental education and advocacy to the West Michigan community for over 50 years.

WMEAC’s Director of Development will work collaboratively with the organization’s staff, board, volunteers, partners, and stakeholders (organizations, members, businesses, interested community members, and more) to support WMEAC’s mission by building relationships and by inviting people to share our passion for environmental advocacy and education, social justice, and to create climate solutions.

Reports to: Executive Director

FTE: 1.0

Pay Scale: Salaried/Exempt; total annual compensation including benefits $60,000 – $70,000 commensurate with experience

Job Duties

Specific Responsibilities

  • Designs, develops and executes annual fund development plan including but not limited to:
    • annual appeals
    • giving day(s)
    • membership drives
    • monthly (recurring) donor program
  • Works with executive director and board members to identify, steward and solicit major gifts
  • Collaborates with and supports program team members to identify, prioritize, and write grant proposals
  • Develops and manages fundraising events and supports program events with sponsorship solicitation
  • Creates and manages 3 x year print donor-focused newsletter
  • Develops and manages initiatives to achieve WMEAC’s strategic goals
  • Manages donor database (Salesforce), project management platform Smartsheet and events platform GiveSmart.
  • Works as a team player to ensure the continued success of WMEAC and its programs by assisting program, communications and administrative staff to support grants management as well as to develop communications strategies for events and appeals

Requirements

Qualifications

  • ●       Bachelor’s degree and a minimum 4-6 years with experience in fund development, grant writing, events planning; additional experience will be considered in lieu of formal education
  • Working knowledge of environmental principles
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent communication, research, and writing skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office and donor software. Salesforce experience a plus
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time
  • Experience in customer service and public speaking to small and large groups
  • ●       Self-motivated, independent worker
  • Knowledge of local or regional environmental issues a plus
  • ●       Ability to manage a flexible schedule that can accommodate occasional evenings and weekends

Work Hours and Location

Full time staff are expected to work 35 hours per week, based out of WMEAC’s office in Grand Rapids. However, we do recognize hybrid work schedules where employees may choose to work from home or from our Grand Rapids office 3 days per week.

COVID Vaccination and Mask Requirements

Currently masks are optional while in the office and at indoor meetings and events. All staff and interns are required to be current on their COVID vaccinations, including any boosters as they become available and recommended by the Center for Disease Control (CDC).
