Two experienced fundraisers who began in other fields will provide tips on how to build your fundraising confidence, skillset, and career path through stories from their own experiences, successes, and failures. This session would be of interest to beginning to mid-level fundraisers or those who may not yet hold a fundraising role but have an interest.

  • Date: Friday, May 16
  • Time: 7:30 AM Breakfast/Networking, 8-9:00 AM Program
  • Venue: Muskegon Community College, Stevenson Center, Room 2310
  • https://www.muskegoncc.edu/main-campus-map/Park in the north lot off Quarterline or Stebbins Road. Follow the sidewalk to the Stevenson Center entrance. Go to the left and take the elevator down one floor to the second floor (Yes down…we’re like a cruise ship here). Follow the signs to room 2310.
  • Cost $20 for members and $25 for non-members.

Presenters

Sue Samaniego serves as Chief Advancement Officer for Muskegon Community College. A first-generation student who attended college with donor-supported scholarships, Sue connects the generosity of individuals, foundations, and businesses with opportunities to provide excellent educational opportunities to others. Sue has a Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts degrees from Eastern Michigan University in Special Education and Speech-Language Pathology (her first career). More recently, she earned certificates in Non-Profit Management from the University of Illinois – Chicago and High-Performance Leadership from Cornell University. Since December 2021, Sue has been recognized as a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE). Outside of development work, Sue is an avid outdoorsperson, artist, and writer.

Pete DeBoer (he/him) joined the Community Foundation for Muskegon County in 2019 after 15+ years in the nonprofit land conservation field. He holds a Bachelor of Science from Western Michigan University in Biology & Environmental Studies. In his role as Director of Donor Relations, Pete leads work connecting with professional advisors as well as stewarding the LEAD Muskegon giving circle. Pete loves the ability to connect donors to what they love about community both in their lifetime and as part of their legacy. He lives with his family as close to the beach as possible and only gets lost in the woods occasionally.
