Planned Giving – You wish your predecessor did it…
October 1 @ 7:50 am - 9:00 am
Planned Giving – You wish your predecessor did it so don’t let your successor down.
Guest Speaker: Mike Goorhouse, Community Foundation of the Holland Zeeland Area
Our society does not do well with delayed gratification, and fundraisers are no different. Nothing shouts “delayed gratification” like spending time on Planned Giving requests when you need money now, so many fundraisers have a hard time working Planned Giving requests into their workplan. During this session we will discuss strategies for making sure Planned Giving doesn’t get lost in your to do list and we’ll discuss lessons learned from when CFHZ used an estate gift matching campaign to incentivize donors to make estate gift commitments now, and actually tell us they made the commitment.
Bio – Mike has spent his entire career in philanthropy including 6 years working with Family Foundations, Community Foundations and Youth Grantmakers while at the Council of Michigan Foundations before joining the CFHZ staff as Vice President of Donor Development in 2012 and becoming President/CEO in 2014. CFHZ has seen significant growth in its fundraising under Mike’s leadership, including securing 100 new estate gift commitments for unrestricted endowment during a 2 year campaign.
